acknowledges that this volume describes the operating method of the most
successful U.S. Daguerreians; he discusses the equipment, the operating room,
preparation and exposure of the plate, and provides a detailed listing of the
variety of chemicals available. The sections in "alternate: processes depends
largely on excerpts from the inventors.
