Hill offers information on selection of equipment, on preparation of the daguerreotype plates, recipes, accessories, gilding, enamelling, etc.
Part II is titled "Daguerreian Chemistry" and, as the author states, presents information resulting from more than 1000 experiments, as well as information from other experts. It details the chemicals used in the daguerreian process and their uses, as well as Hill's own methods of operating.
In Part III, McCartey offers a variety of
helpful hints on the chemistry of daguerreotyping.
